Transforming Accessibility Information in Real Estate

Finding an Accessible Home Should Not Be Left to Chance

REASA was founded to make accessibility information easier to find, understand, and use in real estate. In partnership with Northwest Multiple Listing Service (NWMLS), we helped create a practical, searchable system for identifying accessibility features in home listings.

After nearly a decade of successful use in Washington State, we know this approach works. Our mission now is to bring these standards to more markets, helping people with accessibility needs find homes that truly work for them.

Our Mission

To advance accessibility, inclusivity, and housing choice by promoting standardized accessibility information throughout the real estate industry and empowering consumers, MLSs, technology providers, and housing professionals with the tools and education necessary to identify, market, and locate accessible housing.

Building on proven real-world experience, we work with:

  • Multiple Listing Services (MLSs)

  • Online Real Estate Portals

  • Technology Providers

  • REALTOR® and Real Estate Associations

  • Housing Organizations

  • Government Agencies

  • Disability Advocate Groups

Together, we are improving how accessibility features are identified, documented, shared, and searched throughout the housing ecosystem.

REASA: Why This Matters

When accessibility information is easier to find, people can make better housing decisions that support independence, safety, and quality of life.

At the same time, sellers who have invested in accessibility improvements can better communicate those features to prospective buyers who value them.

Accessible housing benefits millions of people. Our work supports:

  • People Living with Disabilities

  • Older Adults Who Want to Age in Place

  • Veterans & Military Families

  • Families Supporting Loved Ones with Mobility Challenges

  • Individuals Recovering From Injury or Illness

  • Anyone Seeking a Home that Better Fits Their Needs and Lifestyle

Our Vision

We believe accessibility information should move through the real estate ecosystem just like other important property information.

A person searching for a home should be able to find meaningful accessibility information regardless of:

  • Where They Live

  • Which MLS Serves Their Market

  • Which Real Estate Website They Use

  • Which Technology Platform Supports the Listing

By helping organizations implement standardized accessibility data fields and best practices, REASA is working toward a future where accessibility information is accurate, consistent, searchable, and widely available.

Our Non-Profit

REASA was established as an independent nonprofit because accessible housing information should benefit everyone.

Our goal is not to own a standard, control data, or promote one real estate platform over another. Instead, we serve as a neutral organization focused on bringing stakeholders together around a shared objective: making accessibility information available and searchable wherever consumers look for housing.

As an independent nonprofit, REASA can collaborate across the industry with MLSs, REALTOR® organizations, technology providers, housing advocates, disability organizations, and aging communities without being tied to a specific company or commercial interest.

Looking Ahead

Changing how an entire industry handles accessibility information is a significant undertaking, but we know it can be achieved because we have already seen it work.

Our focus is not on reinventing the process. It is on sharing proven practices, supporting implementation, encouraging collaboration, and helping organizations adopt standards that make accessibility information useful and searchable for everyone.

This effort is bigger than any one company, organization, or technology platform.

It is about ensuring that people can find homes that meet their needs and helping make accessibility a standard part of how real estate works.

Our Guiding Principle: Accessibility should not be an afterthought in real estate. It should be built into how homes are listed, searched, marketed, and found.

We believe accessibility should be easy to find, easy to understand, and built into the way people search for homes. REASA was created to make accessibility a standard part of the real estate experience, not a separate category or an afterthought.
